ᐅ House Electricity Consumption – Usage Figures for Comparison

Hello,

I know there are many factors affecting electricity consumption, so it might be a bit of guesswork. Still, I want to give it a try.

We have a ground-source heat pump (deep drilling). We heat about 170 sqm (1,830 sq ft) with it and don’t have large electricity consumers like an aquarium, etc. Our house meets the KFW 55 standard.

Currently, we use roughly 30 kWh per day on average for everything (heating and regular electricity). We rarely have temperatures below freezing at night. When I calculate the consumption over 30 days, it comes to about €250 per month in winter. Of course, consumption is naturally lower in summer.

Does anyone have comparable numbers? We just moved in in October, and I’m wondering if the heating system is working properly (efficiently) and if the output from the ground loop is as expected.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Greetings from Lake Constance,

Living in the house since December, currently using about 30 kWh per day (household electricity + heat pump). Today, I am having an interim meter installed to see how much the heat pump consumes.
The heat pump is a Fujitsu Waterstage WSYP100DG6 + WPYA080LG (outdoor unit) + 300-liter (79-gallon) hot water tank.

We also live in BW. House is KfW-55 standard, about 165m2 (1776 sq ft), currently 2 working adults. We cook every evening and my wife enjoys baking. The house is generally warmer than usual in all rooms (luxury). We have an air-to-water heat pump with controlled residential ventilation and heat recovery.
Household consumption is about 175 kWh, heat pump total about 640 kWh. Costs without fixed fees are €45 + €135. The monthly payment is a bit higher, but it’s nice to get refunds.

640 kWh seems quite high to me?

When I read here that some people only need 5-8 kWh of household electricity per day, I can only pale with envy.

There are three of us, we cook fresh meals every day, and due to the child, we also do much more laundry than before. The portable heater runs regularly as well (for changing diapers, bathing the child, etc.). The heater, washing machine, and dryer already consume a significant amount of power → 13-14 kWh of household electricity per day.

We haven’t applied any exterior plaster yet. That is probably also a factor.

Good question. How is that evaluated? If we have room temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius (73°F), for example, and not just in the bathroom. The average outdoor temperature for December here is about -2 degrees Celsius (28°F).

Is household electricity consumption without the heat pump?

We have a gas heating system and, with five people now (2 adults, children aged 8 years, 3 years, and 1 year), we have used around 2,000 kWh in our house for the second year in a row. The main electricity consumers seem to be the fridge-freezer combination and the washing machine (6 kg (13 lbs)). The latter runs almost every day. It was an A+++ rated appliance but has recently been replaced by an 8 kg (18 lbs) washer-dryer combo because we just can’t keep up with the laundry during winter. Let’s see how this affects the 2018 bill.

A few months ago, I replaced all the halogen bulbs with LEDs. Unfortunately, I can’t measure the electricity consumption of the gas heating system separately.
