Hello,
I was working away from home this week and stopped by the construction site briefly this evening.
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
The main contractor installed the interior window sills, but they protrude by at least 10 cm (4 inches), and probably around 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) after plastering.
Isn’t that unusual nowadays?
That was common practice in the past when you needed to hide radiators underneath.
Now all the issues begin, but surely it can’t stay like this, right?
Best regards,
Daniel

Well, with narrow bricks there simply isn’t enough space to install the “standard” window sills that are 20cm (8 inches) deep. Then it looks like it does in your case.
But it seems to be due to something else if you have 36.5cm (14 inches), as you say. Anyway, have it corrected and move on. A good general contractor (GC) should be willing to discuss this. No, our interior is also narrow, yet we still have a decent window sill with about a 2cm (0.8 inch) overhang. Unfortunately, it’s relatively narrow.

Yes, it is narrower than 20cm (8 inches). As far as I know, exactly 20cm (8 inches) window sills are the typical standard ones. In other words, they are installed by the wagonload.
But anyway...Take a look at the picture posted by winnetou on page 1: the spacing (see wall thickness) is now standard, and the material is available in that depth!
Yes, of course, it is available for purchase. However, that does not change the fact that 20cm (8 inches) is more commonly used and installed on both sides, as is the case here. It actually looks suspiciously like 20cm (8 inches).
But as already mentioned, it doesn’t really matter.
