Hello!
We are currently planning a new build in Schleswig Holstein.
Since the orientation of the house is not suitable for a solar system, we would prefer to leave it out. We are planning a KFW-70 house (gas condensing boiler, ventilation system with heat recovery, various insulation measures for the floor slab, walls, roof, triple glazing).
Is it possible to comply with the Renewable Energy Heat Act without a solar system?
Best regards, Markus

Hello,
whether or not a solar system must be installed cannot be generalized. The entire building needs to be evaluated and an energy balance calculated.
As long as the requirement values of the energy saving regulation are undercut by 15%, solar can be omitted (also without wood pellets, wood chips, or heat pumps). If not, then solar is necessary... or an exemption permit. However, I cannot assess whether one would be granted in case of only an unfavorable orientation.
Basically, it is possible to manage without solar.

..I experienced this Energy Saving Ordinance law first-hand last year. I have a gas boiler, ventilation, and HAD TO install solar panels on the roof. Or an expensive geothermal probe or ground source heat pump... You were probably misadvised by a seller (general contractor / main contractor).

Bulla20004 Apr 2011 20:14We have a KfW 60 standard (the goal was KfW 70, so we are even better now). Heat pump, controlled ventilation system, double roof insulation, triple-glazed windows.

It is not possible to obtain a building permit / planning permission with a gas boiler unless you use renewable energy like solar or geothermal! That’s what I was told! You probably consulted the wrong advisor!
