Hello,
I am currently renovating my bathroom, including the bathtub. I use a bathtub quite often and am therefore considering buying one with a whirlpool feature. Unfortunately, the internet is full of offers for whirlpool bathtubs with quite significant price differences.
Can anyone share their experiences with specific manufacturers? Has anyone ever bought from a more affordable supplier, or is it better to go with well-known brands like Villeroy & Boch? Is it preferable to have a built-in tub that is then surrounded by masonry and tiled, or not?
I would appreciate any tips and suggestions. Fortunately, you don’t renovate a bathroom very often.

Steffen8012 Oct 2017 08:07We had it for 10 years but now we are avoiding it in our house construction. The maintenance effort is very high (not only scaling, but also mold prevention!). Also, it was used too infrequently... better to take more frequent vacations and use the spa there instead.

Steffen8012 Oct 2017 08:11Oh, and if you decide to buy something anyway -> definitely avoid cheap junk from China (almost everything online is low-quality Chinese products)!!! Some acquaintances of ours did. They bought a whirlpool bathtub on eBay for about 2000 EUR. Gradually, everything started to break down... steam generator, leaking hoses in the whirlpool, discoloration on the tub, thermostat replaced three times. An absolute disaster, and they have already spent at least the original purchase price on repairs.
We had one from Villeroy & Boch and never had any problems. However, it costs well over 10,000 EUR (around $11,000) – and that is just the tub plus whirlpool, without all the unnecessary extras like those found in the Chinese models.

You have to fill the pipes/tubes with active foam and flush them multiple times... ideally rinse again with clean water. It’s best to do this monthly. If you skip it even once, you’ll notice the smell immediately.
