Hello,
I want to stabilize our sloped building plot with a retaining wall. In our area, retaining walls up to 2m (6.5 feet) do not require a building permit / planning permission.

As mentioned before, our plot is on a hillside, but it also slopes down about 1.5m (5 feet) from the neighbor’s boundary on the other side.

We want the wall itself to be completely straight.

My question is, from which point exactly is the 2m (6.5 feet) measured?
Is it measured from the center of the wall? I couldn’t find any details about this in the regulations.

Strange question!

Measured according to the natural terrain slope.

If the back is 1.5 m (5 feet) higher, you cannot simply add that to the front to keep it level.

And what determines the maximum height I can build with a permit? Do the neighbors have to agree to this?

I would like to build higher than 2m (6.5 feet).

Our plot is, as already mentioned, on a slope, but in addition the neighboring boundary on the other side is also slightly downhill (about 1.5m (5 feet)).
And in this direction, you want to build up soil, or what is the wall supposed to retain?

@11ant : I think he means that his plot is on a slope, meaning it drops from north to south and also has different elevation levels from east to west. If he only fills the slope (north -> south), there would still be a gradient from east to west. To compensate for the east -> west slope, he would need to build the retaining wall higher than the allowed (permit-exempt) 2 meters (6.5 feet).

@Mike29: So you mean that I understood correctly that it’s about unevenness in two dimensions; but I’m wrong to assume that it’s enough to just compensate one?

So the goal now is to “straighten out” the plot in both dimensions?
