ᐅ Creating a Terrace – Challenges with the Slope

Hello everyone,

We have been living in our newly built semi-detached house for about a year. Until now, I’ve only been reading along, but now I’m stuck. We are currently working on the paving. This coming weekend, I want to set the edge stones for the terrace. While planning, I encountered a problem due to the shape of our house. A rough sketch is attached.

Because of the bay window, the terrace narrows by about one meter (3 feet). I now have a problem (maybe I’m just missing something) with the slope. How or at what height should I set the edging stones to achieve a consistent slope away from the house? About 7 cm (3 inches) or 5 cm (2 inches) below the surface level? Is there anything else I should pay attention to?

Thanks and best regards,
ChristianMue

I think I understand your problem: it’s about the area in front of the sloped wall? You would basically have to lay the paving stones at an angle along the wall. I would adjust the triangle in front later, so just leave it out for now 🙂

Somehow, I'm completely stuck.

Maybe I’m having some trouble visualizing this right now.

Left area 3.60 m * 2% = 7 cm (2.8 inches) below the door
In the bay window area something in between
Right area 2.60 m * 2% = 5 cm (2 inches) below the door

In my mind, the curb stones run downward from right to left, at least the stones in the bay window area. You have to compensate for the difference somewhere, right?

No, on the left side of the drawing (at 3.60m (11 ft 10 in)) you will be closer to the door than on the right side, because you need to plan for an additional meter (3 ft 3 in) of slope on the left.

Alternatively, if you have the same slope along both walls, a bulge will form in the middle of the terrace, at the sloped wall.

To be honest, I don’t understand either of you.
If the slope is consistently 2 percent, I don’t see where a bulge would form.

Mea culpa.
Okay, I think I should have mentioned this... there is a door in each of the three partition walls. So, for the house, I have to start from a certain height.
With the same slope over different lengths, I will end up with different heights at the end, right?
