ᐅ Constructing a Soakaway on Your Property Yourself

We need to manage the rainwater infiltration ourselves. Should we do it ourselves or accept a quote from our construction company and a civil engineer? Both are around €6500 (approximately $7000). To save some money, I’m considering doing it myself. Recently, a colleague told me that you can build a soakaway system yourself using a water tank (see picture). He simply made holes for connection and infiltration. The galvanized steel frame would protect the tank from deformation. This is much cheaper than ready-made soak pits.

Is it possible to build a soak pit yourself like this? If so, how would you approach it and what do you need?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

For wastewater, both amounted to €7,600.

The system is simply intended for infiltration. No utilization is needed. It should be underground.

In our case, the local water authority later requested the calculations, the plans, and a written confirmation that the soakaway – in our case, the infiltration trench – was constructed according to the plans. So it’s worth making a non-binding inquiry to find out if there might be any requirements or regulations in your area.

How much work do you have to do there? For us, it was only about 500€ for 6-7m (20-23 feet) from the house to the transfer chamber.

@ares83 The wastewater connection to the shaft is about 15m (50 feet) for us. The price refers to rainwater infiltration plus wastewater connection.

Thanks for the hint.
