Due to our elevation, we experience significant below-freezing temperatures in midwinter, horizontal snowfall from the valley side, and, in addition, plenty of sunshine in summer. We are planning a gable roof with a 35-degree pitch, and the architect has suggested making the roof out of concrete (either precast elements or cast in place; currently, he prefers the first option). One advantage of this is that the house would not heat up as much. We are also planning to have a black exterior, and the roofing will be done with bitumen.
Does anyone have experience with concrete roofs? If so, could you share some insights (advantages, disadvantages, costs, etc.)? At the moment, for a 150m² (1,615 sq ft) roof area, additional costs of about 15,000 euros are expected, all included.
Best regards
Karlstraße

Or instead, green the roof— that works too.

Let’s see, otherwise you’re probably right and it will stay with the rafter roof. I can imagine that a concrete roof is better for the indoor climate, especially since the house is open up to under the roof. But whether the difference justifies 15,000 euros...
