Hello everyone,
in another thread, there was a discussion about whether nowadays more people build with or without a basement. I am curious to hear your thoughts.
Best regards

I also like filled bookshelves in living rooms. Unfortunately, nobody here has taken up reading as a hobby, and if they did, it would be digital.
Such a shame.

A bunker is no longer necessary. Here is a quote from Zeit-Online today, regarding the severe weather in northern and eastern Germany:
Anyone who notices the typical air vortices of a tornado should definitely not watch this natural phenomenon through a window, according to the DWD expert. "The best thing is to go to the basement and definitely avoid standing near doors and windows," said Friedrich. If you are in a car, you should not stay inside: "The car can become a deadly trap."
No traditional basement.
There is already a 13-meter (43-foot) elevation difference on the property, so digging down further just for a storage space without windows doesn’t make sense to us.
We also have an existing building.
An attractive old above-ground sandstone cellar with a clay floor is on the property. If I ever get bored and decide to create a vegetable and fruit garden, apples and similar produce will store much better in that sandstone cellar than in concrete. Otherwise, it is used for overwintering garden furniture and tools.
The old tractor garage has also been preserved and will house winter tires, bicycles, welding equipment, and other items.
