Hello everyone, our single-family house is now finished, and from the very large and long kitchen window, we look directly onto the very ugly house and the neglected garden of our neighbor.

There is 3m (10 feet) of space, about 2m (6.5 feet) of which will be paved. I am at a loss as to what would be suitable, and also visually appealing, without taking up too much space. Hedges seem not tall enough, or do they just take a long time to grow?

Thank you very much!

We will also plant European beech at the back. On the side, we have created a colorful hedge:

Purple dogwood
Cornus alba 'Sibirica'

Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius 'Lady in Red' -R-

Winter viburnum
Viburnum bodnantense 'Charles Lamont'

Strawberry Deutzia
Deutzia hybrida 'Strawberry Fields'

Japanese spirea Snowmound
Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound'

Golden privet
Ligustrum ovalifolium 'Aureum'

Yellow-variegated weigela
Weigela florida 'Brigela' -R-

Double-flowered mock orange
Philadelphus 'Schneesturm'

White corymb spirea
Spiraea cinerea 'Grefsheim'

Weigela Bristol Ruby
Weigela 'Bristol Ruby'

Personally, I don’t like cherry laurel or arborvitae either.

Bieber, I looked up some of the shrubs and immediately found a lot of options that I already like but didn’t know the names of.

Now I just need to save your list in a way that I can easily find it again when working on our garden layout.

Bamboo from the Fargesia family does not spread aggressively at all. Personally, I would avoid planting any other families.

Great plant, I think I’ll buy a "shrub" of it and put it in a large pot.

What does it mean that it doesn’t spread aggressively? Does it not grow quickly in width? At the current growth rate, I imagine it needs to be heavily pruned twice a year, right?

It does not produce underground shoots that emerge from the ground several meters away. It always grows new shoots directly from the plant itself. You will need to prune it once a year after reaching the desired height. If it becomes too wide, you can cut back the plant and start a new bamboo...
