Hello!

After receiving a hefty quote for bathroom fixtures of around €22,200 (about €900 for a toilet bowl), I just got back from the ICU recovery room and am now dealing with toilet bowls.

The rimless wall-hung toilet from the company with the +, their own brand, seems to be from Laufen according to my research and has an average rating of 1/5 stars on Amazon. Reason: water splashes out at the front, and quality appears to be mediocre.

I went to the home improvement store (*ahem*) and saw:
- Standard wall-hung toilet €29
- Rimless wall-hung toilet €89
- Brand-name rimless toilet €300

When I asked, the saleswoman said, "Oh, it’s all the same, they all work equally well; you just pay more for the brand name with the branded manufacturers."

The super-premium rimless toilet from TOTO with Tornado Flush I found online for about €380.

In my apartment, there is a roughly 35-year-old toilet, now with many dull spots, but it still wonderfully houses the 'product.' I clean it every few weeks with some cleaner and a brush. So far, no complaints.

So, quite simply: Where on earth is the difference?

Thank you very much for your input!

Complaining won’t help as long as the order is placed anyway. Go with the standard option. Live with it for six months and then gradually replace parts through eBay, Amazon, or Ikea. All the connections are already there.

Why even choose the standard? I’ve now removed everything except the floor drains (flush with the floor), bathtub (embedded in the screed), and the wall connections for toilets and shower fixtures. We’re going to buy toilets, fixtures, bathroom furniture, etc. ourselves and will probably have to install them ourselves as well. It seems no plumber is willing to work for just 50–80€ per hour. With a price difference of around 17,000–18,000€, I’m prepared to spend a lot of time in the bathroom...

We are sourcing the toilets, fixtures, bathroom furniture, etc., ourselves and will probably have to install them on our own as well. It seems no plumbing contractor is willing to work for an hourly rate of €50–80. With a price difference of around €17,000–18,000, I’ll take my time in the bathroom…

It’s a blessing if you have someone in the family… then the payment is just a crate of beer and that’s it…

I also bought the bathroom fixtures completely separately… always carefully compared prices and took advantage of offers. I’m almost afraid to say what I paid in total for my bathrooms; others probably pay that much just for their shower…

I did the same and saved a five-figure amount. However, the work should not be underestimated in terms of both the time required and the difficulty. And you still end up making about 12 trips to the hardware store.

I was lucky again; the nearest hardware store is only 700 meters (765 yards) from us...

We are still undecided. Today, he offered my wife a combination set with a washbasin cabinet and mirror cabinet. It costs 1100,- Sanibel, a private label from plumbing specialists. Allegedly, it is produced by Villeroy & Boch. But that doesn’t really matter; the products look good. The faucet is from Ideal, the basin too, and the rest is Sanibel. It includes lighting and an electrical outlet integrated into the cabinet. Those soft-close drawers... so, what do you think? Installed, connected, and ready to use in the house for 1100,-. That doesn’t sound like being ripped off. Karsten
