ᐅ Adding shading retrofits is not recommended by the energy consultant.

Hello everyone,
unfortunately, during the planning of our new build, we were advised by our energy consultant that shading for the triple-glazed windows would not be necessary. According to them, internal shading combined with the ventilation system would provide adequate cooling in the summer. However, we have found this is not the case, so we are now looking for a way to retrofit shading.

Unfortunately, we are unsure which solution is best to keep the heat out of the house during summer. Should we choose external roller shutters, venetian blinds, fabric roller blinds, or something else? Are there other options as well? Given the current situation, it is also unclear to me how to mount such a system. The windows are installed partially in the masonry. The other half is surrounded by the external wall insulation (16cm (6 inches) polystyrene). Is it allowed to attach guide rails or similar fixtures to the window frame? The windows meet Passive House standards.

We would be very grateful for any ideas and suggestions. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Best regards

There are definitely options... this isn’t your first house with insulation on the outside... and manufacturers aren’t standing still either... they want to sell...

We also have the fasteners in our facade – for attaching our awning.

Did you have the brackets installed afterwards?

It is somewhat clear to me that something can be done there, but I’m missing the "how." I would like to see it in action to get an idea. I can understand the awning, but not how I would install an external roller shutter with its guide rails. I haven’t found anything about this on the internet so far. I don’t want to damage the plaster too much or drill holes into the frames. Thank you very much for your ideas.
