Hello,
we are currently building a semi-detached house 6m (20 feet) wide. With a traditional room layout, the sofa would be placed along one wall and the TV cabinet on the opposite wall, resulting in a viewing distance of about 5m (16 feet). Please see the image below!
How have you arranged your sofa and TV stand optimally for such distances, or should I plan for a 65-inch monster TV?

You are truly spoiled
Not that our next TV will be 32" again... no, it will be bigger.
But the last time we were at MM, it was something like 42" or 46".
It's very likely just a matter of getting used to it... first bigger, then it becomes addictive... like with tattoos: once you have one, your body ends up covered.

Thanks!There are no standard sizes for sofas, but minimum dimensions. I would always calculate 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches) depth per sofa, and about 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches) width per seat.
Furniture is never placed directly against the wall, always with some space.
A dining table for six is usually around 80 by 180 cm (31 by 71 inches), but 90 by 200 cm (35 by 79 inches) is also common.

The women always say when the new TV arrives, "No way, it's way too big," then it stays standing or hanging in the apartment for two weeks, and afterwards they say, "Honey, it could have been a size bigger after all."
Like you said, it’s all a matter of getting used to... but with 32 inches (81 cm), you really need opera glasses.

stefanc8419 Feb 2017 22:23It might depend on visual acuity and personal habit. TVs used to be smaller, and that worked somehow. But for me, it can’t be big enough. And when I look at the recommendations from various tech magazines, for example, 60 inches at 2.5 m (8 feet), maybe I’m not the only one with this preference.
