Our masons had the standpipe for water tapping stolen. The utility company has now billed us for an estimated consumption of 50m³ (1,765 cubic feet). In the past months, water was only used for gluing the exterior walls. The masons also partly used collected rainwater. I consider the 50m³ (1,765 cubic feet) estimate to be very inaccurate and would personally expect 2-3m³ (70-105 cubic feet). Do you have any experience with this?

For our prefabricated timber frame house, a total of 1 cubic meter (35 cubic feet) was used, costing 1 euro. Unfortunately, that's 90 days of rental, amounting to 140 euros in total... I could have carried the cubic meter there with buckets ^^

How much do 50 cubic meters (65.5 cubic yards) of fresh water cost, which can be proven not to have been discharged as wastewater?

This is really a joke to even worry about.

Counter question: How much does it cost if you park for an hour in a downtown Munich parking garage but have lost your ticket?

I agree with that. The 50m³ (65.5 cubic yards) seems excessive but might be covered by the terms and conditions (?) and in the end, it’s a minor amount not worth the effort.
I would be more concerned about the deposit for the standpipe (here, the deposit for that thing is 1000€).

You let the standpipe get stolen, not the bricklayers. If the bricklayers were responsible for the standpipe and the water supply, you wouldn’t be getting a bill for 50m³ (about 1,765 cubic feet) of water now either 🙂

It’s about €70, which I cannot afford to give away. The amount is worth the effort for me to discuss it by phone or letter with the municipal utility company. I expect the payment of the deposit from the negligent bricklayers/construction company.
