Hello!

We have an open space of about 12 square meters (130 square feet) in the house and would like to combine comfort with functionality by installing a net similar to those used on catamarans (see picture). However, one of the long sides borders the conservatory, so the net cannot be attached there. We are considering a metal frame to which the net would be fastened, with the frame only screwed into the remaining opening area (timber frame construction).

Has anyone already done something like this? One company gave us only a standard response regarding mounting, and we are still waiting for a reply from another company. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you and best regards

Faydie

This is not meant to last forever, but only as long as we have very young children.

Oh, so it’s a kind of child safety feature.
The children will then lie there in the evening and listen to your TV programs.

Best regards,

They could also do that on the parapet.
Honestly, I find it quite disappointing that things are discouraged here like this. I have noticed it several times, especially when someone is new to forums.
Actually, I did not ask for opinions on how others find the internet. After all, tastes are – fortunately – different.
I would still appreciate references from manufacturers. Thank you.

Best regards

I think your contact person needs to be local, especially regarding the window and related details. This means you should go to the local master locksmith and have something like this custom made. I believe this is quite specialized and not something you can easily buy off the shelf. You already have a picture of an application.

The reason is—at least for me—that I want to encourage you to reconsider, because I believe it’s a bad idea. I might find this mesh original for two seconds, but after looking into it, which I did because of your question, I find it nonsensical for the reasons mentioned here.

However, I believe that everyone has their own taste and style. Personally, I am generally not in favor of voids or open spaces like this, but I think the idea is very clever. This way, the purpose (fall protection) is combined with something useful. If you install a railing there instead, it doesn’t look any better.
