Hello everyone,
We have been living in our new house for just under six months, which is equipped with a Tecalor THZ 303 with a controlled ventilation system. We had no issues during the summer. However, for about a week now, our neighbor has started using his wood stove, which produces heavy smoke and a strong odor. The neighbor’s chimney is on the same side of the building where our fresh air intake is located. Since then, every evening our entire house smells strongly of smoke/fireplace; my partner’s eyes water, and I get headaches.
Is there a way to reduce the smoke entering the intake without me having to go down to the basement every time to turn off the ventilation system, hoping the neighbor isn’t using the stove during that time?
No other chimneys in the area or neighborhood produce such heavy smoke — only the one that is directly affecting our fresh air intake.
Best regards

Christina198615 Nov 2016 18:47I read on another building blog that a family has exactly the same problem. They installed a filter box with a filter cartridge. However, the cost is quite high.
How often does the filter cartridge need to be replaced (150 euros) and where is the filter box installed on the unit?

More homeowners have this problem than you might think... When the wind is unfavorable or there is no wind and the chimneys are running, the draft pulls air in just the same. In my case, the system simply shuts off during this time... The filter cassette is nothing special; it’s basically just additional filter mats placed in front of the unit’s air intake... following the principle: More is better.
However, this also increases the airflow resistance and consequently the power consumption.

but my system just switches off then. Automatically? And does it switch on again as well?

Yes, similar to new cars where if there is an unpleasant smell outside, the cars nowadays switch to recirculation mode and then back again... but that’s another topic. How did you implement that?
Sniffer unit?
