ᐅ Bathtub... now what?

Hello everyone,

with the renovation of our old building, a new bathroom has also been added.

I’m more of a “shower person,” but on cold, wet days a hot bath isn’t a bad idea. Now I have – hopefully not the only one – the problem that when bathing I get pressure pain on my lower spine and, at the latest, one hour after the bath, bruises appear, which naturally takes away the enjoyment.

Standard bath mats could probably help, but honestly: they are not very attractive. No matter the manufacturer or brand – even the well-known ones – I don’t really like any of them. I also don’t like having these things stuck on the edge of the tub after bathing, just so no ugly marks form on the tub bottom. Last time I just placed a towel underneath; not a permanent solution.

How do you enjoy your bath, or am I the only one with this problem?

I can believe that, and under normal circumstances, we probably would have done the same.

I just need to add: In the end, we ordered one online. We wanted a corner bathtub, and those aren’t very common right now, so showrooms don’t have many on display. But if you look at the dimensions of comfortable bathtubs, you can usually tell whether a tub will be comfortable. So far, we haven’t been disappointed, at least in the dry test. We haven’t been able to actually lie in it with water yet.

The shape of the bathtub must be fundamentally wrong for your body?
From what I gather from the responses in this thread, I seem to be the only person with this problem.

Hello building expert,

I always found our old bathtub uncomfortable, especially around the tailbone area, which hurt after sitting for a long time. After testing, we decided on a trapezoidal bathtub. You can even sit comfortably side by side in it.

Oops – that seemed quite unusual to me as well, so it’s reassuring to hear that others have had the same experience. What aid or accessory did you find helpful for your old bathtub?

After trying it out by lying down, we chose a trapezoidal-shaped bathtub. It even allows two people to lie side by side comfortably.

Next time, I will definitely try lying down first; I already regret not taking the time for that.

However, the bathroom has only been in use for about 4 weeks, so I rely on tricks or aids that will make bathing tolerable for me in the coming years.

I used to have an uncomfortable bathtub myself and experienced mild back pain afterward. In my case, a bathtub pillow with suction cups helped stabilize my neck. Maybe that could help you with your tailbone?!

And what if you use these bathtub liners? There are nicer options, but whatever. At least you can throw them in the washing machine. Or you could get these stylish black neck pillows for the tub and tuck one under your hips to change the way you lie in the bathtub.
