Hello forum community

We have built a prefabricated house. The handover date is the day after tomorrow.
We had a wired alarm system installed with a bus system.
This was already known during the house selection process. For this reason, the electrician from the house company had coordinated with our security specialist before the construction of our house and agreed on the installation of the system.

All windows were delivered with the appropriate contacts, everything fine.

Today the system was supposed to be connected. It was noticed that although a bus cable runs to our front door, the required alarm contact in the front door is NOT present.
This should have been installed during the manufacturing of the door.

We chose a system with internal wiring precisely to AVOID unsightly surface-mounted devices on windows and doors, and now there is this mess. Someone at the house company must have missed this.

It seems that retrofitting the door internally is not possible.

Do we have the right to demand the correct front door?
We do not want to accept a surface-mounted retrofit. Our door is dark red and the surface-mounted unit would be snow white and quite large. A real eyesore.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thank you!

Harald

I believe in this case the principle "ordered does not equal delivered" truly applies. Defect repair without replacement is not possible -> replacement.

Yes.

Report the wrong delivery in writing to the contracting party and at the same time request a face-to-face meeting. Since you probably haven’t lost your patience during the construction – you don’t mention anything, so it seems you have a reliable building partner – the discussion should proceed accordingly.

Thank you for your replies.

But... we’ve already lost our patience many times :0/. The dirt-trapping zone in the hallway was not installed (a big hassle…), electrical outlets without covers in the bathroom right next to the faucet, the entrance door staining when wet, raising the house by 30 cm (12 inches) because the architect made a “planning error” – and the corresponding costs…, “suddenly” appearing steel beams (in a standard house) that ruined the planned installations, and other similar issues…

Today, the missing contact in the front door was the last straw.

Why would you have “all trades” from ONE source?

It’s absolutely frustrating.

According to the internet, the provider seemed reputable. No negative reviews, despite building 50–60 houses per year in NRW…. but in our development, there are now four families using this provider and we all keep having problems.

It feels like once you’ve paid most of the price, their commitment drops… Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Okay, I will probably formally request a replacement tomorrow. But they will likely try to shift the blame onto us again.

Best regards,
Harald

Could you please send me a private message telling me who you are building with?

Regardless, you are entitled to proper contract fulfillment. Since adequate retrofitting is not feasible with your HET and financial compensation won’t really make up for it, your provider is responsible. How they explain this to their window supplier is not your concern.

PS: What exactly is a "Sauberlaufzone"?

Hello Harald,

I hope everything has been resolved(?). Please give some feedback.

Building expert: for us, the "clean-off zone" was a recess with a flush-mounted scraper inside.

Good luck
