Hello,

We are in the process of renovating the following house (photo).
The wooden facade on both sides of the house is neither attractive nor up to date.
However, it is likely that there is no plaster underneath.

What experiences or design options can you share with me?

Thank you very much!

Single-family house with white facade, dark roof, garden and paved front area facing the street

You could replace the old wooden cladding with new horizontal siding made of larch or Douglas fir, extending across the entire wall. It looks very stylish on a house just around the corner from here.

Do you mean extending it down to the ground floor as well?

I would find that very nice and modern.

My suggestion would be to replace the wood, possibly with composite panels. But I personally think @miho’s idea is better and more contemporary.
By the way, cool: this house could probably stand on any of our streets within three blocks at most 🙂

Best regards

Exactly.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo or any image I can link to. I’ll try to take one tomorrow.

Thanks a lot, I can’t find any photos online of a wooden facade only on the two gable ends... So I still can’t quite picture it.

If you enter "wood cladding gable side" in Google image search, after scrolling quite a bit you will find pictures of houses that have clad the entire gable side.

Yes, I have noticed that too. However, there aren’t very many options, and I still can’t quite imagine how it would look very good^^

What alternatives to wood are there?

I think the option with plastic panels looks very nice!

As I mentioned before, take a look at Eternit products. The material is really durable and has nothing in common with asbestos or the typical unattractive panels of the past.

I find Eternit Cedral quite appealing; it comes in a wide range of colors and even with a wood texture. From the street, you can’t tell whether it’s real wood or wood-look.
Additionally, the facade requires no maintenance, sanding, painting, or anything like that for a very long time. It is UV resistant and completely weatherproof.
