Hello everyone,

as the question suggests, I find it surprising that IKEA kitchens are quite affordable. How is the workmanship, meaning the quality? And what about the IKEA hinges? Do IKEA kitchens last a long time?

Best regards

We have had an IKEA kitchen for 13 years, which we assembled ourselves at that time. We are satisfied with the kitchen. However, for the planned single-family house, we decided against IKEA because, due to a change in the model line, it is not possible to install a semi-integrated dishwasher from Siemens. Although there are some modification guides available online, they did not fully convince us.

No one really claims that IKEA kitchens are completely worthless. These kitchens also come with a granite countertop. The only thing that seems to convince buyers is the transparency of the prices. However, as already mentioned, you cannot expect custom dimensions, and as @sven0924 pointed out, not all of the required modification instructions are convincing—and they do cost money.

Buy an XXL model (87cm height (34 inches)) from Bosch, Siemens, or Neff with a variable hinge. Nothing more is needed. You can simply attach an 80cm (31.5 inches) panel. However, it will then be fully integrated.

But especially for a new build, I don’t need custom sizes. I already had the plan with me during the construction plan review.

We are choosing the IKEA kitchen for these reasons:
1. Transparent pricing
2. Cheapest option with the desired features
3. 25-year warranty
4. Simple system, widely available (20-minute drive to the nearest IKEA, most parts ready for immediate pickup)
5. 1-year return policy. If a cabinet or interior accessory turns out to be impractical, we can return or exchange it.

No question, if this is acceptable for you, then it should be that way.
