Hello,

our tile installer, who we have been waiting for three weeks now, has finally installed the window sills. Of course, the painting is already done, and we will move in over the weekend...

Is it technically necessary to get the walls underneath dirty? Or can it be done without?

Thanks and best regards
Simon

Hello Simon,
That could definitely have been done differently. Normally, no one even notices that benches have been installed. Probably too much adhesive or cement mortar was applied and then spread around.

I agree, usually these issues appear much earlier...

They could have just masked the area. The site manager thinks we should simply paint over it and be done... Well, we’ll see, this kind of thing is just unnecessary.

Have you already paid for the installation of the window sills? I would wait until the damage has been repaired before doing so.

This is not damage, this is... quick processing of the order.
The original poster, sorry, I couldn’t see your name properly using Tapatalk just now, should be glad that he was allowed to do any DIY work or to have a painter work inside his home before the final work started. That is not a given, so you have to accept some repairs like these.

By the way, we also painted beforehand and deliberately kept about 10cm (4 inches) below the window clear. There will always be a mortar adhesive layer under the sill – so you need some freedom for the paint transitions 🙂

I don’t think this is an overreaction. Of course, the tradesperson could have been more careful, but were they asked to be? They might be able to charge extra for additional care. Whether 2cm (1 inch) or 8cm (3 inches) need to be repainted…

But what exactly is the “damage” cost in €…

That’s why I wouldn’t make a fuss about it.
