Henrik08171237 Jul 2016 00:13Hello,
we have found a very interesting plot of land in principle – however, when I look on maps, I see what appears to be an oil facility or something similar and a power station "nearby." There is still forest and a highway in between, but could this have any negative effects regarding odors, health, potential accidents, or something like that?
What do you think? Any concerns?

Caspar20207 Jul 2016 09:52So, 200-300 meters (220-330 yards). In our area, there is a chemical park about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) away, which also processes petroleum. Occasionally, about once or twice a year, there is a slight odor.
What is more bothersome is when gases are flared. This happens much more frequently and is clearly visible from our location. Sometimes it lasts for several days. (You need less lighting in the garden then 😀)
Every now and then, rupture disks also burst. You can Google "Kölner Norden: Knall bei Ineos - Berstscheibe in Polyethylenanlage ausgelöst" for more information.
That was a pretty loud bang. :p
You might also have heard of the lake nationwide:
"Shell-Sanierungsstatus Kerosinsee in Wesseling erst zu einem Drittel abgepumpt"
Where there’s heavy industry, there are sometimes side effects. Personally, I would find that too close. 🙄
But my relatives, who live very close to Bayer Leverkusen (and have worked there for decades), enjoy excellent health. 🙂

Oil plant or something and a power station Do you mean the Ruhr oil refinery? The power station is probably the Scholven power station (according to Wikipedia, coal and oil).

There is still forest and a motorway in between So the plot is located east of the A52 motorway (refinery and power station are to the west)?
I would probably be more concerned about the motorway. How far away are you really?
