Hello everyone,
I am also looking for someone with experience regarding funding for soundproof windows.
The building permit indicates that our property is located in noise level zone V. It refers to DIN 4109, Table 10. Unfortunately, I could only find the version from 1989. Can someone tell me how to find out if there is a more recent edition?
Required sound insulation values:
Bedrooms 50 dB
Living rooms 45 dB
Office rooms 40 dB
In addition, the installation of window-independent ventilation systems in bedrooms is mandatory.
While searching for window soundproofing classes, I came across the website "energieheld," where I read something about funding.
In our case, the noise level zone V is due to a railway track. According to that website, the contact point for funding is the regional branch of the Federal Railway Authority. I have already found the contact details for the nearest branch office (Cologne).
My questions are:
- Has anyone applied for this before?
- Is it worthwhile, or is the time and effort not worth it?
- How should the request be formulated?
Controlled residential ventilation with heat recovery will be installed in all rooms on all floors. Additionally, triple insulating glazing with laminated safety glass on the outside is planned, with a construction of about 8/12/4/12/4 and a frame depth of approximately 82 mm (3.2 inches), possibly 90 mm (3.5 inches). We planned this independently of the "noise level zone V" requirement but it should already meet the building permit regulations.
Of course, it would be nice to receive additional funding beyond that.
Thank you and best regards

So it’s best not to ask the question at all? Let’s just leave it, it won’t lead anywhere anyway. I’m not sure why there is such a sharp tone here?
There are questions for which a forum is simply not the right place; nothing more, nothing less! If the railway promotes soundproof windows in your area, it is quite unlikely – even though this forum has many members – that you will find a neighbor here who has already gone through this process and could provide information. Perhaps the railway’s subsidies differ in your building region compared to, for example, Hesse?
From my point of view, it would be more helpful and sensible if you shared information once you have received details about subsidies for soundproof windows. THAT would help future users from your region who have questions; unfortunately, you drew the short straw with your question at this point. And just to clarify – I certainly don’t gain anything from you seeking answers, nor do I want to reprimand you 😉
**There are some providers here that apparently manage mid-sized projects and are looking for builders. It is more than unusual that some of them are found here. Unfortunately, I cannot prove if they bypass the forum rules in a casual way by using multiple accounts, which might create a distorted impression for users like you.

Well, I personally found it unnecessary and somewhat rude to be met with “Who’s supposed to know that?” around my ears, which is why I reacted.
I researched how to meet the required insulation standards and came across the topic of funding. Depending on the source of noise, they also mentioned who the responsible contact person is. I wanted to try to get more information on this subject here.
Whether this is voluntary or something you are entitled to? I don’t know, it wasn’t mentioned in the source. Whether this is regulated differently depending on the country? I don’t know either, that wasn’t covered. So, thanks for these new points to consider.
In the meantime, I have contacted what I believe to be the responsible Federal Railway Authority in writing and requested information. I will gladly share any feedback I receive.
By the way, we are building on a gap in the existing development. The neighbors built their houses decades ago without such requirements (for example, ventilation systems of that kind didn’t exist back then). Since it seems we have the last undeveloped plot, the old zoning plan was replaced (the area is now officially considered fully developed, as they call it) and the plot was assigned to a different zoning plan that includes the requirements described at the beginning.
Best regards!

I would take it seriously and even exceed the requirements. We have standard windows, and I can hear the children shouting and the neighbors chopping wood... especially with the very large units. Not a big deal since both don’t happen that often and it doesn’t really matter – just want to say that the basic windows are rather mediocre in sound insulation.
The current design of our window assembly is impressive. However, it won’t help much if we can’t properly insulate the roller shutter boxes as well. It does seem possible, though. Exceeding the requirements isn’t really feasible given the high standards, at least not when looking at the components individually.
