Hello,

we have seen in some model homes children's rooms without a ceiling, open up to the roof. There was usually a staircase leading to a kind of mezzanine where a bed was often placed. Do you know what costs are involved in building a children's room with an open ceiling? Our daughter really likes that idea, but we think it must be quite expensive. Does anyone here have a room like that?

Hello everyone!
We have planned that all rooms on the upper floor, except for the two children’s rooms, have a closed ceiling (collar beam). Above these rooms (hallway, master bedroom, dressing room, bathroom) there is a walkable attic space. The children’s rooms have an open rafter height, as it is commonly called (no collar beam with attic).

I thought it was cool, and if we had to build with a knee wall, it definitely would have been with 2 levels.

Hello,

sorry for the question, but how exactly does that work? Did you install the insulation completely directly beneath the battens? All the suppliers we have spoken to so far only offer insulation directly above the ceiling, which creates what is known as a cold roof.

Thanks.

And that would be exactly the additional cost: the roof area is larger than the ceiling, so more insulation material has to be installed. Therefore, a cold roof is ruled out, and the attic space is within the thermal envelope without a ceiling/floor.

Please share some photos. I also have a 60 m² (645 sq ft) attic... do you have beams or is it completely without?

@BeHaElJa: If you google "Danhaus rundgang engelsby,"

you'll see that there's a ladder from the children's room up to a kind of loft. Our little one really liked that. My wallet, however, did not.
