ᐅ Tips for BAFA Subsidies

Hello,

I am currently reviewing the application form for the air-to-water heat pump subsidy from BAFA. There are quite a few details to consider, fill out, and provide.

Now, a heat pump quality check is also required after one year of operation. With a subsidy of €1300, an estimated €300-400 will probably be spent on that.

Has anyone here applied for the BAFA subsidy and can share how the process went and how smoothly everything was handled?

It raises the question of whether the effort is worth the subsidy.

Produced heat in kWh per year / electricity consumption of the heat pump per year = seasonal performance factor

The seasonal performance factor can only be accurately calculated retrospectively and depends on the temperature profile/location and the individual heating behavior.

Seasonal performance factor according to VDI or similar standards is an estimate used to simulate the seasonal performance factor under specific conditions...

And only the calculation according to VDI is sufficient...

Is there even an air-to-water heat pump that is supported by BAFA? I also find the list confusing.

Yes, it already exists—in theory at least. However, it is very difficult to achieve an annual performance factor of 4.5.
For existing building subsidies, an annual performance factor of 3.5 is sufficient.
That is why BAFA states that air-to-water heat pumps are primarily subsidized in existing buildings.

Then they should replace "mainly" with "only."
We are currently planning our new build with an air-to-water heat pump and had the BAFA funding in mind. But as it looks now, that option seems off the table.

We are planning to install an air-to-water heat pump in our new build. We intend to use the Buderus WPL8 AR model, which is eligible for funding according to Bafa. Our heating installer assisted with the application and carried out the annual performance factor calculation. We calculated a value of 4.57, which means the heat pump is eligible for funding (at least according to the guidelines published online). We have not yet received approval, only an acknowledgment of receipt with the note that we can now proceed with the heating installation contract.
