Hello, we are planning to build a single-family house on our own......

Planned size 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft) without a basement, gable roof with raised knee wall.
To achieve KfW 55 standard, my understanding is that a U-value of 0.20 is required. How can I most cost-effectively achieve this with a single-layer wall of 365mm (14 inches) thickness? Noise protection can largely be neglected.

Craftsmen are all represented in the family, but all have rusty expertise regarding building materials... I think I’ll get a quote from companies to see what materials they use, and I can still decide which trades I do myself with family, except for masonry.

Have you already spoken with a certified energy efficiency consultant? You will need one anyway to apply for the subsidy.

An energy-efficient new building requires thorough professional planning and qualified supervision during construction. As part of the planning, application, and implementation of a subsidized project, an expert is required to support the homeowner.

Since I am building without financing, the 'KfW rating' doesn't matter to me.

I’m going to start looking into this... I know a chimney sweep who is also an energy consultant, maybe he can help or recommend a building planner or something like that. I don’t want an architect... it should be a simple rectangular house with nothing else.

When exactly does unregistered work (working off the books) begin in house construction? I’m from a rural area and know many school friends who are masons and plasterers who have offered to help me. But I also want to show my appreciation...

@Portoalegre: My question/comment was directed at the OP. That statement about KfW not mattering came from Tom1607...

It is also very important for me to mainly heat and warm water using wood logs, combined with gas.
