Hello,

since we live in a metropolitan area with relatively high-priced tradespeople, I would now like to tender the most expensive trades on a regional or nationwide basis (including the new federal states). Does anyone have experience with how to do this? Are there specific forums or marketplaces for this, apart from the one major platform featured on radio and television?

How do others handle finding tradespeople nationwide?

Thanks in advance and best regards!

More interesting: how do you plan to handle accommodation for the craftsmen, maintenance contracts, or warranties?

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a specialist company from Flensburg or Görlitz, although they wouldn’t be the first installers needing to find accommodation in an unfamiliar city.

But why shouldn’t a company from the Ruhr area, the Eifel, or the Westerwald, with an hour’s drive to the Rhineland, be just as capable as a local company?

Warranty is certainly a valid point, but if the company is based within a 100km (62 miles) radius and likely handles even more regional projects... I wouldn’t initially worry that their warranty service is any worse than that of the local village blacksmith. Especially since the latter, operating in a supplier’s market, probably doesn’t have to work so hard to get new contracts and likely prefers spending time on large construction sites rather than dealing with small jobs and warranties. Or am I mistaken?

When I pass construction sites in new development areas, I often see tradespeople’s vehicles with license plates that definitely don’t come from the area.

Your post doesn’t come across that way to me; what you describe is quite common.

I assume you only handled the building permit/planning permission process with an architect? Have you ever approached a general contractor/construction manager? Where in North Rhine-Westphalia are you planning to build?

I’m not saying it’s “worse,” but due to the greater distance, in the worst case it can be more complicated or less satisfactory to coordinate.

We have an architect, but he works with tradespeople from the Rhineland area. However, we would like to outsource the most expensive trades outside that region (so not Cologne/Bonn).

I would also base this on the trades involved, meaning how quickly the contractor should be available in case of damage.
