ᐅ Location of the heat pump – in the south?

Hello,

after much consideration, we have now decided to go with an air-to-water heat pump.

We are currently planning the installation location. Initially, we planned to place it on the north side, where it wouldn’t bother anyone. It would be located under the bathroom, and the neighbors are quite far away.

However, I’m wondering if that is really the best option. In one thread here, someone mentioned that it’s better to install it on the south side. They didn’t explain why, but it makes sense to me because of the higher temperatures. What are your thoughts? Does it make a significant difference? Especially in winter, it wouldn’t hurt if some sunlight hits the unit, right? Or could there be problems in summer when the device is exposed to direct sunlight and high outdoor temperatures?

I’d appreciate any experience or insights.

If you are building with a basement, you might have the possibility to install the heat pump there. This way, the issue of noise disturbance wouldn’t even arise.

But you do realize that we are talking about the outdoor unit of a split system here? Installing it in the basement makes little to no sense.

However, I don’t see any mention of a split system here, only generally about a heat pump! That’s why I’m considering installing the entire system in the basement.

Then the question about disturbing the neighbors no longer makes sense.

Only if he hadn’t previously considered an indoor installation and thus faced the above-mentioned problem.
Either way, if the OP—for whatever reason—needs or wants a split system, then of course the basement is not an option.

Is it really possible to operate an air-to-water heat pump entirely inside the house?!? Wouldn't I be cooling the area where it is installed...
