Hello everyone,
I have a question about how you built your tiled showers, especially regarding a recessed niche in the wall for shower items. In our plan, the wall where the niche is currently planned is quite thick at 17.5cm (7 inches), and with tiles, it comes close to 20cm (8 inches). I also find the partition between the bathtub and the toilet at 11.5cm (4.5 inches) a bit bulky.
How did you handle a niche in the wall, and how thick are your walls around the shower?
The shower itself measures 1.50 x 1.00 meters (5 x 3.3 feet). The idea is to build a stud wall inside the shower at the back and create a niche in that, which could reduce the 17.5cm (7 inches) thickness.

In my opinion, the partition wall by the toilet doesn’t make much sense. When someone enters from outside, their first focus is naturally the toilet. The wall would only serve to allow someone to bathe while another person is using the toilet. But that seems rather unlikely, right? Shower and toilet might be more common in a family, but there’s usually another partition wall for that.

What material do you want to use for the wall? Just drywall and that’s it? That wouldn’t hold up. The shower wall could certainly be built with 11.5cm (4.5 inches) masonry, leaving out the toilet partition. Structurally, neither would have any impact at all. You should just be happy there is a proper solid wall instead of a flimsy one.

I want to build with stone from the start, but I’m just wondering if there is a thinner stone than 11.5cm (4.5 inches) that can be used.
And then there is the question regarding the niche. I think to be able to create a niche, the wall needs to have an appropriate depth.

In our case, the niche was built into an 11.5cm (4.5 inches) thick wall. The wall was completely opened up and closed off from behind with a drywall panel. The niche now has a sufficient depth of about 10cm (4 inches). There are also pictures on our blog ;-)

The shower is located below the 2-meter (6.5-foot) line! 😱

Is there going to be a glass partition in front of it? You should move it forward anyway; a rain shower won’t work here (although others do it too 😉)
then you could also create a platform under the sloped ceiling.
I would skip the partition between the bathtub and the toilet.
