Hello everyone,
we are currently considering the advantages and disadvantages of installing the heat pump either in the basement or outside in the garden.
Our architect has simply planned to place the heat pump behind a retaining wall in the garden.
- What are your experiences?
- What are the approximate cost differences?
- Would you recommend installing it indoors or outdoors?
The lot is 450 m² (5400 sq ft), with the house including a double garage occupying about 140 m² (1500 sq ft). There would be enough space in the basement.
Thanks

I am really curious in which room the heat generator was planned in the drafts/the required calculations; surely not in the garage?

I built last year according to the old Energy Saving Ordinance. Was the regulation already like that back then?

Who do you mean by energy consultant? The one who calculated the heating load, the energy certificate, and the documents for the KfW? – None.

Hello everyone,
We have now decided to install the heat pump in the basement under the garage. The noise would hardly be an issue there, and this way we can avoid potential damage from martens, weather conditions, and possible icing around the heat pump.
The plumbing company estimates that installing the heat pump inside the house will cost 5000 euros more. We have yet to receive the exact quote. Is there really that much more involved to justify an additional 5000 euros?
Thanks for your feedback!

A significant volume of air needs to be moved through the pump, which means a considerable amount of ductwork (properly insulated, of course) is required. In addition, weather protection covers are needed at the air intake and outlet points. Two wall penetrations are necessary, with sizes depending on the duct dimensions, and possibly air shafts as well. Of course, it also involves a different device altogether.
So—wait for the quote, then you’ll have a better idea.
