ᐅ Electric roller shutters in new construction

Hello everyone,

we are slowly entering the final phase and hopefully will start construction within the next four weeks.

We have a great general contractor, but we feel that their expertise regarding roller shutters is lacking.

For each electric roller shutter (no central control, simple open/close switch) they have estimated 1000€.

Now we would like to get an independent quote. Are there any references or recommendations here in the forum, preferably from the Hamburg/Lübeck area?

What should we realistically expect per electric roller shutter:

Patio door element 200 x 220 cm (79 x 87 inches)
Window 150 x 130 cm (59 x 51 inches)
Window 60 x 110 cm (24 x 43 inches)

And what would be the approximate additional cost if we opt for a timer switch instead of a regular switch?

Thank you very much for your help!!

Best regards,

We don’t have wind monitors – we could still install them, but for rail systems I consider them purely optional depending on wind direction.

Of course, that also depends on the location. Where we are, it gets quite windy due to the exposed position, and for a 2 by 3 meters (6.5 by 10 feet) area on the upper floor, I wouldn’t have wanted to do it without a monitor. I recently adjusted the sensitivity at night during a storm to suit my preferences.

It seems quite expensive to me what window manufacturers charge for electric roller shutters. Considering that some tubular motors can be bought for 50€-100€. You could install those yourself during the construction phase and therefore remove the strap or crank. Of course, you would still need to add the switches and other components.

And new wave, bearings, and small parts... it’s not as cheap afterwards as you might expect.

It depends on the approach. My window installer prepared everything, and I just had to slide in and hang the motor, which was quite simple. So this part only cost me the materials. Then my electrician connected the control unit I bought for a few dollars (which was chosen to also fit into the wiring plan for the socket already planned at the window). With this, I easily saved a three-digit amount per window for about 2 hours of labor plus some additional time for selection and ordering.

Do you close your roller shutters every evening? For us, electric shutters or a central control system would have been completely unnecessary. Neither of us likes the feeling of being shut in, and we also don’t want to wake up in complete darkness. Therefore, our shutters are only used during the day on hot summer days and sometimes in the children's room for darkening.
