Hello dear community,

Since I have encountered various figures during the planning and consideration of our single-family house, I would like to start a thread where everyone is welcome to share all kinds of information.

Please move the topic if I have posted it in the wrong section.

I’ll start with the house of a good friend:

Type – 1.5 stories, gable roof, basement, approximately 140m² (without basement)
Heating – gas condensing boiler with about 400L (105 gallons) buffer tank and solar panels for hot water (2 panels)
Fireplace – yes, but without water jacket
Ventilation – Systemair VC400
Wall construction
- Eder Thermopor 016 – thermal conductivity Lambda 0.16 W/mK
- Insulation mineral wool rigid boards 120mm (5 inches) WLG035 and lightweight exterior plaster 20mm (0.8 inches)
- Heat transfer coefficient U-value 0.18 W/m²K
Number of occupants – 2 adults and 1 child (2–3 years)

Consumption values (as of 2015):

Water/sewage – 50m³/year (1,765 cubic feet/year) → about €250
Electricity – 2,700 kWh → about €900
Gas – 700m³ (24,740 cubic feet) → about €525 (although the house is heated a bit “too comfortably” for our taste)

Waste disposal, broadcasting fees, property tax… are very region-dependent.

I am grateful for any improvements and tips and look forward to strong feedback.

Now I will present the "hardworking and therefore frugal" household: 2 people, both employed. All appliances are LED and rated A+ (or higher).

Electricity consumption was 650 kWh in 2015 and 600 kWh in 2014 :-)

This is really amazing. What do you have at home? No washing machine, TV, large refrigerator, or dishwasher?

But anyway, hats off!

It would be great if more people here could share information, especially about the house and heating. Or is there another knowledge base regarding actual consumption?

We also used around 1200 kWh over the past two years with four people (not quite as impressive), and we even have a dryer that we use frequently.
I’m curious to see how much we will use now in the house.
There are many posts here in the forum about Viebrockhaus residents and their heat pumps.

Of course we have a washing machine and almost only use the dishwasher. The TV runs on average about 3 hours a day... The fridge is medium-sized, but all appliances are very energy-efficient! All the lights are LED! One small "advantage" is that our hot water comes from district heating, so that cost is eliminated...

I can’t say much about the heating, since we only get the utility bill once a year, but even here we get quite a lot back! However, I wouldn’t attribute this to a “frugal” lifestyle, but rather to our living situation. We both work quite a lot and are out of the house from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. We also like to go on vacation now and then, so we naturally use very little energy 😉

Hi,

House with 134 sqm (1443 sq ft) of usable space, approximately 108 sqm (1163 sq ft) of living area.
Heating: gas condensing boiler combined with a solar thermal system for domestic hot water.
Wood-burning stove without water jacket, used occasionally in the evenings or on weekends
(saves about 1–1.5 cubic meters of gas per use).
2 adults.

Annual gas consumption about 6000–6500 kWh (less this year).
Basic fee 180/year, kWh rate 0.06 ct.

Electricity consumption about 3,500 kWh/year, currently 30 ct/kWh, soon 28 ct/kWh for purchased electricity, plus the rest supplied by the photovoltaic system.

Average water consumption about 11 cubic meters (390 cubic feet) per month, price not clear at the moment.
Outdoor water meter somewhat reduces sewage costs.

Best regards,
Thorsten

to get a sense and create a kind of database showing which type of heating consumes approximately how much energy depending on the house style.

You are worrying too much about very little. Differences in consumption usually depend mainly on the investment, and otherwise are hardly noticeable when the other parameters are the same.
