ᐅ Important Detail Overlooked in Shower Planning

I’m a bit frustrated right now because I forgot an important detail in our walk-in showers: a shelf or recess for shampoo and other toiletries. And that’s despite friends reminding me, who made the same mistake themselves. They still regret having to buy those basket-type holders every year because the old ones start to rust, whether cheap or expensive… eventually they all rust.

Do you have any good ideas for wall-mounted storage solutions?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks in advance! So, the showers measure 1 x 1.10 m (3.3 x 3.6 ft) and are built with aerated concrete blocks. However, the walls are only about 17 cm (6.7 inches) thick... is it safe to mill into them without any concerns?

A natural stone shelf would look best, since we have travertine marble in the showers. Plastic wouldn’t look as nice in my opinion.

@ Bautraum

If the tiling hasn’t been done yet, talk to your drywall installer or mason, depending on which trade built the bathroom walls.

A recess in the shower wall will cost you a bit more if added later than if it had been planned from the start, but it will save you a lot of ongoing trouble.

Just keep in mind, the tiler will also charge a little extra ;-)

Hello,

I would recommend avoiding the baskets and, as the building expert suggested, have a recessed wall niche designed. We had this done during construction and are very happy with the result. Stylish mosaic tiles were installed in the wall niche.

Hello,
our shower has tiled corner shelves in one corner (the shower is in the bath corner). We also had a great tiler. I’ll look for a picture.

Here is a photo.
We are very happy with it!
