I’m a bit frustrated right now because I forgot an important detail in our walk-in showers: a shelf or recess for shampoo and other toiletries. And that’s despite friends reminding me, who made the same mistake themselves. They still regret having to buy those basket-type holders every year because the old ones start to rust, whether cheap or expensive… eventually they all rust.

Do you have any good ideas for wall-mounted storage solutions?

Thanks for your help!

I had thought that the water pipe or the sewage line was missing 😀
Are the tiles already installed?
Is it possible to install some kind of natural stone board? That wouldn’t rust.

No, the tiles are not installed yet... is there still something that can be done? Natural stone panels sound great! I just have no idea what it might look like 🙂

We have a stud wall with a cavity inside. I’m not sure which wall your shower is on, but maybe you could carve a bit more into it?
Natural stone, perhaps marble or some kind of sandstone? Try searching on Google Images.

There are definitely materials/baskets that do not rust, but you shouldn’t focus solely on the price. An unplanned cladding of course takes up space. That said, I like the idea of a stone slab, as long as it fits the design.

Then maybe it’s still possible to create the niche with minimal effort. (Please share more details!).

Alternatives:
- Basket made of stainless steel, 100% stainless steel including the screws. Should not rust.
- Basket made of plastic (the kind that you hang from the ceiling).
- Place shower items on the floor.
- Shelf made by the tiler out of tile (may require creativity; might later become inconvenient).
