Good evening, dear forum members,
I am looking for a rough estimate of the additional costs involved in building a standard new house compared to a KfW 70 or KfW 55 energy standard. The low interest rates are very attractive, but is the extra expense for a KfW-certified house really worth it? Or would it make sense to implement only parts of the KfW standard? Perhaps a fireplace and a decent gas boiler would be sufficient.
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
Nils

Even if you can cut the wood for free and then handle the transport, processing, and drying yourself, it still doesn’t pay off because you have to factor in your own working hours at your net hourly wage. Instead of managing the coppice, I could also work some overtime on a Saturday morning and achieve the same result in the end.
We have a fireplace because of the pleasant radiant heat and its appearance.

We have a fireplace because of the pleasant radiant heat and the look. And then all the cleaning. Lighting. Stoking. Running around. Refilling. Simply awful. And then expensive, coming from me as a Swabian.
Jokes aside.
No: I actually enjoy it a lot. It’s worth it to me. It’s a kind of micro-hobby! Right now it’s beautiful again: The storm is coming. Sweeping around the house. Audible. Noticeable. It’s raining heavily. The wood stove is crackling away quietly, and inside it’s so incredibly cozy. The lights are low. Wonderful! I LOVE IT.
My annual wood supply is gone. For the rest of the season, I’ll run to the DIY store. Next year I’ll buy more. Carrying wood 3.5 hours ago. Doesn’t matter.
Best regards
Thorsten
