ᐅ Various Questions About Home Automation and Security Systems

Hello everyone,

I have been thinking about this topic for some time now, and I’m not sure how to prioritize everything since many great options are available, but they also come with corresponding costs.

The house will definitely have an electric garage door and electric roller shutters, which is not unusual in itself. Soundproofing and burglary protection are very important to us due to the location of our plot (edge location directly adjacent to a railway track).

For the windows, we will choose a higher frame depth model (82mm (3.2 inches)) for an additional cost, with RC2-N security class throughout, as well as aluminum roller shutters. We are also considering a film system designed to prevent easy shattering of the panes. In our window contract quotation, there is an additional item listed: “High-control magnetic contact for electrical monitoring.” Can anyone explain what this means? I have heard there are systems that automatically lock everything or close the shutters in case of vibrations or glass breakage.

Roller shutters can be time-controlled, but I find it inconvenient to go to each window switch or program each one individually. Is it possible to install a central switch that allows programming or raising/lowering all the roller shutters on the ground floor with a single action?

Additionally, we have decided on a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. Here, too, I wonder what control options make sense. Would one control panel per floor be advisable?

Lastly, there is the front door, specifically the “automatic/electronic locks.” Could someone explain the added costs and benefits? Unfortunately, this option was not included in our offer.

Thanks and best regards

@RFR
Thanks, I think we’ve even discussed controlled residential ventilation before. 🙂

Thanks, magnetic contacts for all windows would cost around 1000 EUR in total, so I think I’ll skip that.

Controlled residential ventilation was offered to us by Broetje, LivingAir LAK450R Comfort, alternatively LAB450 Comfort.

Oh, thanks a lot for this information. I always thought it was genuine RC2, so does the addition N indicate a “light” version? Can you tell me what is missing compared to “real” RC2?

Thanks and regards

The Living Air system is quite expensive compared to, for example, Helios. So far, I have only seen benefits in the filters given the price difference.

To my knowledge, the difference between RC2 and RC2N lies only in the glazing. RC2 offers better protection against break-in attempts. In my opinion, the film is more intended for retrofitting older windows. In Münster, there is a company that provides these films. It was recommended in a police presentation on burglary protection for existing buildings.

Use the Helios system, as it includes a web server, allowing you to save on multiple control panels...

You can also install the window sensors yourself if you want to connect them, which will cost less than half...

I would like that too, but it depends on whether they can offer it to us and, if so, at what price.

I also find many great colorful pictures and advertisements for Broetje but nowhere any mention of efficiency (degree of heat recovery).

Yes, they are very sparing with the technical data, but they have only been in business with their two models since 2011. And the price is twice as high as a comparable Helios (even for equity). So for me, that’s basically a deal breaker...
