Hello,

after getting quite a few sunburns on our terrace this summer, we now want to take advantage of the affordable “winter prices” and have an awning installed on our house.

Power and control cables, as well as the indoor switch and appropriate mounting brackets in the wall, are already in place.

What we have in mind is an awning with the following specifications:

- Cassette awning
- Width between 500 and 600 cm (197 and 236 inches)
- Projection between 350 and 400 cm (138 and 157 inches)
- Electric operation
- Some degree of water resistance, so that the terrace doesn’t have to be cleared every time there is a short shower

Optional features that would be “nice to have”:

- Wind sensor
- UV sensor for automatic extension and retraction depending on the sun’s position
- Lighting

Has anyone here had experience with an awning like this?

We would appreciate tips on manufacturers and models, and possibly also on installation partners in the Stuttgart metropolitan area.

It would also be interesting to learn the prices you have paid...

Best regards,

Dirk

I can ask my neighbors. Since last year, they have had an awning with all the accessories.

Despite the hot summer, we decided against it. Instead, we invested in three sun umbrellas with UPF 50 protection. One has a diameter of 4 meters (13 feet), another 3 meters (10 feet), and for the small terrace, 2.7 meters (9 feet). Each umbrella is a different color. The costs were reasonable thanks to a large online retailer with A...: including covers and umbrella bases, one weighing 50 kg (110 lbs) granite and two weighing 90 kg (200 lbs): about €500.

Our large terrace measures 40 square meters (430 square feet). The advantage of the umbrellas for us is that we can sit close to the lawn without anyone having to weave around furniture to go around or into the house.

That would be really kind of you!

Each umbrella is a different color. Thanks to a large online retailer starting with A…, the costs were reasonable: including covers and umbrella stands—one 50 kg (110 lbs) granite stand and two with 90 kg (198 lbs)—around €500.

Our large terrace is 40 sqm (430 sq ft). The advantage of the umbrellas for us is that we can sit close to the lawn, and no one has to weave around furniture to go around or back into the house.

We also tried one umbrella this year. Despite having 100 kg (220 lbs) concrete slabs on the stand, it took off on its own after less than an hour, flew over to the neighbor’s property, and destroyed their rotary clothesline...

Well, of course, it wasn’t a quality product, just a cheap one for €80 from the big-box store...

We will definitely install an awning; we already have the necessary brackets and concrete blocks in the wall, as well as the electrical cable and switch installed.

Best regards,
Dirk

I will know more tomorrow.

The documents belong to the daughter (a gift from her), and she is coming to visit on Tuesday. The awning is not from a local company, so it might be of interest to you.
