Hello,
does anyone have experience with keyless entry systems for the house? For example, a fingerprint scanner, keypad, or a key fob/transponder in the pocket to open the front door?
Companies like GIRA, KIWI, etc...

I have ordered an automatic lock for the front door, with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the mailbox (Ekey), allowing you to electronically open both the front door and the mailbox.

But what exactly do you want to know?

Experiences, advantages and disadvantages, and of course the costs. What should be considered during the planning stage, especially regarding the wiring?

I chose to connect my door communication system to an app.

The door communication system is linked to an IP gateway that is connected both to the local Wi-Fi network and the internet. This gateway communicates securely through a central company server. Using the app, I can remotely control the door communication system. This allows me to access the camera(s) worldwide, operate lighting in the driveway, and of course, open the door. Essentially, I can also open the door for myself from anywhere.

This solution was cost-effective and convenient for me since I don’t have to carry an additional device, and I can selectively enable or disable individual devices that access my door communication system at any time.

I found the solution with the decentralized server so unsatisfactory that I decided against it—not due to security concerns, but because what happens if the company no longer exists? Especially since you are dependent on their availability—see the recent telecom disaster with their smart home system...

When planning, you don’t need to consider much—just run one (better two) LAN cables from the point where the fingerprint reader will be installed to the distribution board. The same applies for the automatic lock.

Disadvantages? It’s quite expensive (you should budget around 1500–1800 euros for the eKey and motorized lock if you don’t order through a general contractor or similar, who will likely add extra fees), you have something that can break, and during a power outage without a UPS you are a bit stranded (we have a traditional lock elsewhere, but the front door is lock-free).

If you want to install a camera as well, the cost will easily reach 3000 euros. I left my options open and still have space for audio and video equipment in the mailbox unit. Whether I will use it, I don’t know yet...
