Managementarir5 Sep 2015 10:43Hello house-building forum users,
I have some general questions. We are planning to buy a terraced corner house in need of renovation in Hamburg. The house has 80 sqm (860 sq ft) of living space, was built in 1960, has a full basement, and night storage heating. The house needs a new bathroom and kitchen.
Now to my questions (costs when hiring a company):
1. What would a basic bathroom cost? (tiles, bathtub, washbasin, and toilet)
2. Is it possibly necessary to replace the supply and drainage pipes, and what would that cost?
3. Is it advisable to replace the heating system immediately, and what would be the cost?
4. What would new windows cost? There are two terraces each with a balcony door, two large windows, and five smaller windows in other rooms.
5. Should I be concerned about moisture in the house because of the basement?
I understand that I have not provided detailed information, which makes estimating the costs very difficult. I hope people with experience can give me a rough estimate.

A house—whether move-in ready or in need of renovation—requires a significant investment that should be well secured whenever possible. This applies even more so when the property in question is an existing building requiring renovation. The forum users can certainly offer you some "potential" cost points, but whether this will truly benefit you is questionable.
Find a qualified building surveyor or expert you trust near you through well-known portals, such as bvfs.de, and inspect the property together with them before you commit to purchasing. After that, you will almost certainly know the condition of the property and the expected renovation costs, enabling you to make a sound decision.
Regards, Bauexperte
